Quick Ups! – Near the Year’s end

What a year!

Honestly, it has been the worst I ever had, but despite that, I’m glad I managed to release some chapters!

But rather than staying sad talking about my irl situations, I’d like to reflect on this year, and talk more on the plans for 2026.

The Original Plan

The totality of Break Umbrella, counting the stories of Chiclen, Seymon and other protagonists I haven’t used yet is still around 900 chapters planned.

After nearly releasing all of Volume 1 in the last half of 2024 I thought:

Well, If I release 2 colored volumes a year in English and Spanish, which looks plausible and not too overwhelming, I should be able to get it all done in 50 years, right before my 80's, maybe a bit faster these first years, then slow down, but I can do it!

But this year was horrible because of thing beyond my control, and it ended up affecting my drawing performance.

Out of the 19 chapters I wanted to release, only 13 are out at the moment IO write this.

I also wanted to draw more for socials, share music I like and make drawings inspired by it every month, and only got to make three drawings like those, and I don’t remember many drawings I did outside that gimmick other than a few doodles.

Usually, I feel disappointed when I plan big and can’t get it done, but with how this year was, I actually feel somewhat apathetic.

But 2026 has 12 more months!

Being more conscious of my limitations under this years circumstances, and other plans I have outside drawing, after releasing the last chapter of Volume 3, the next volumes will be black and white with screen-tones.

Although the main reason is so I can get chapters faster, I also wanted to focus more on my lineart.

I feel my style has been dependent too much in color, multiply/glow layers, and although I like what I’ve been doing, the lines themselves are what I’m lacking the most.

I also want to print my comics at some point (maybe even monkey up and go to convention to gift/sell them), and printing in color is expensive and requires some high quality paper that is also expensive. I’m becoming a big fan of manga, and I the black and white format is perfect for cheaper printing and paper, but still a format that is comfortable to have in physic.

This means I will have to rework the first chapters too, but I’ll do that while I progress with Volume 4 and onward.

Talking of Volume 4, here’s how the first page of of its first chapter will look!

I still plan to do the covers in color, and hopefully this gives me time to make more drawings for my characters outside the comic, or play along more with the artsy side of socials.

I also am thinking of more stuff to make and experiment, but let’s keep things simple for now.

Chapter 21 will be out this Friday! And there maybe a chance of getting 22 before the year ends!

Volume 3’s end will have extend to the first weeks of 2026, but I hope theses 6 chapters can make you feel something!

The Villa Vieja Arc was something I wanted to wrap up in about 6 chapters, but I’m confident extending it to 17 was the right choice for the story and characters.
